Savage Thrust - Demo of Doom 1985

Classic NY thrash/power metal form Staten Island. I used to jam the shit out of this tape as a kid. I stupidly sold my copy back in the 90's for far too little money. I saw a copy of this sucker sell for $100 on ebay a few weeks ago. Included is a scan of a super rare original Savage Thrust business card from my metal vault. If you're the rich dude who bought the demo then you need this business card as well and I'm willing to part with it for the nominal fee of $100...Dave G.

Drinking Is Great Compilation - Fatal Erection 1985

Excellent Portland punk compilation. The nice thing about this record is that you know Poison Idea and E13 rule, but the 2 lessor known bands (in my opinion) Lockjaw and Final Warning also deliver the goods.

The Worst - Expect The Worst bootleg

Bootleg of the classic NJ hardcore punk 12" "Expect The Worst" which was originally released in 1983 by Mutha Records. This is essential stuff right here, though in a far inferior package when compared to the original release, with the songs spread out in completely random order ( I corrected the track list) that is not consistent with the original track listing. Overall thought this is great stuff and I sure as hell can't afford an original copy.

Snake Road 2010 demo

Snake Road - demo 2010 - Philadelphia PA.

Here's a new school hardcore band that submitted a copy of their demo to me a few days ago, and after giving it a listen I've decided that the demo is worthy of some recognition.

The band formed and recorded and released this demo in 2010, and for their first recordings I think they definitely show promise. If you like the newer school of hardcore bands like Integrity or Tragedy ( new school to me is 1990 - present) then you should definitely give these songs a listen. The band is currently writing new material and looking to play shows and get a 7" out in the near future.

My unsolicited demo policy is that if I think the band has promise then I will post up the music and let the blog followers provide feedback in the comments section. So if you like this demo then please leave a comment . If any other bands want to take a shot at getting on the blog then feel free to send me an email, and whenever I can I will try to help out promising young bands...Dave G.

Bloodlust - Suicidal Mission - demo tape 1986

It's been a while since I got some metal up on the blog so I figured why not post up this classic NJ thrash demo that I got directly from the band in 1986. I am also posting the 1st and maybe only issue of the bands news letter Fresh Blood. As you metal heads already know Blood Lust changed their name to Blood Feast after the release of this demo...enjoy !

Las Mordidas - demo tape 1994

"LAS MORDIDAS featured Chris Thomson (Ignition, Fury, Circus Lupus, Monorchid, Skull Kontrol) on vocals and was released right in between his time spent with Circus Lupus and Monorchid. Also features Dug E. Bird (Rain Like The Sound Of Trains, Beefeater, Fidelity Jones) and Jon Kirschten (Rain). This is a bit more straight forward then the other bands mentioned but is still so good. Trouser Press called Las Mordidas "groove punk" and that term fits pretty well."

I like this band so much that I reached out to them a few years ago about releasing a complete discography on a record label I was involved in at the time but unfortunately nothing ever came of our discussions.

Sheer Terror - No Grounds For Pity cassette 1986

Dark heavy sludgy New York hardcore. At times Sheer Terror sounds to me like what Celtic Frost would sound like if they were playing hardcore back in the 80's. This tape still sounds good to me today, maybe it's because Sheer Terror really doesn't sound like any of the other NYHC bands from this time period. The first 4 songs on this tape were recorded at Demo Demo studios by Don Fury 07/1986 and the last 4 songs were recorded live at CBGB.

A.D.'s - Alone Again 7" - Blue Lunch Records 1981

Cool powerpop record from these upstate NY rockers that for the most part sounds like it should be posted up on the KBD Records blog, however the second track throws a bit of a curve ball into the mix with a bit of a Stooges feel. The final track picks up the pace and is the closest this record gets to straight up punk rock.

Rock N' Roll Heaven Clark NJ

It's been brought to my attention that there's a Facebook page for RNR Heaven. If you grew up in the NY/NJ area back in the 80's and you liked Metal then this store truly was heaven on earth.

Looking at the facebook page has me digging through my old metal shit again to see if I have anything to contribute which also lead me to uncover these cool old Voivod stickers and a Voivod fan club card. The RNR connection is I remember an old friend of mine who worked at the store definitely gave me the stickers back in the day.

Anyway check out the facebook page right here.

CRISIS - uk 79 / white youth - Ardkor Records 1979

This is the 2nd of three 7" records released by the post/punk band Crisis who featured Douglas Pearce and Tony Wakeford who later went on to form Death In June in 1981. Drummer Luke Rendall joined Theatre of Hate and lead guitarist Lester Jones formed Carcrash International.

If you like this 7" then you should check out their Lp Hymns of Faith which was recently reissued and can be found on ebay etc.

Life Crisis - Unpeaceful Protest - Get Revenge Records 2004 - white vinyl # 61 of 119

Life Crisis is a band that I've been aware of for a few year now, however I never bothered to give them a listen until I picked up this 7" for a dollar this past weekend, and what a pleasant surprise this record is. Excellent tough full speed ahead hardcore punk with excellent vocals. As some of you are aware there's a whole lot of bands out there tearing it up in the punk underground these days and it's hard to keep up on them all but I'm glad Life Crisis found their way to my turntable. This record is currently out of print but you can find it on Ebay pretty cheap. I think I am going to start posting more newer punk stuff going forward but only if it's out of print.

Murders Among Us - Compilation 1990 - Vermiform Records

Good old school NYHC compilation that seems to have been at least a little bit forgotten. Give this one a listen as all 4 bands deliver the goods with Absolution stealing the show with a metallic hardcore track that brings Burn to mind. Born Against delivers as always and Nausea and Life's Blood rip it up as well.
